The 2026 Changes

Since the 1970’s, We Care has prioritized relationships and providing material support. Due to financial challenges, We Care, as we know it, is no longer a viable possibility...But together we can save it.

Why 2026 is Bringing Changes

For over 20 years, We Care was run by volunteer staff, with a small budget for rent. When the lease ran out and Larry retired, We Care almost closed. Our current location was temporarily gifted to us whish has allowed us to hire staff and create a brighter, more organized store. However, we must relocate soon, causing a significant financial shortfall. To survive in our current world, both salaries and rent expenses must be budgeted for.

We will reinvent ourselves with several key changes. We acknowledge that change is hard and the challenges in our community are worsening with the economy. We can’t bear to let We Care close its doors. Together, we can ensure that no neighbor goes without.

Three Key Changes

Dollar Store Model

The tax included $5 bag pricing is simply no longer sustainable. We propose to charge $1 for most items (clothing, shoes, basic household items) or groups of items ( bag of small toys, etc). Instead of raising the price per bag, we feel that it is more fair to charge by the item. In comparison to other stores, $1 per item is as affordable as possible. Payment will happen at the end of the shopping experience, where sales tax will be applied. Credit/Debit cards will be accepted.

Pop Up Shops

We will strive to create a truck route, one or two days per week, to bring the inventory to underserved rural communities. This will save on fuel costs for our customers.

Boutique: We will create an expanded “Boutique” and sidewalk sales to sell non-necessity items. These items will be chosen to appeal to people who want to financially support We Care .

Fundraising

In order to bridge the gap between these new programs and the actual cost of staying in business, we aim to raise $95,000 per year.
